Dear CFTDA Members,
I hope this message finds you well.
Bakersfield College is excited to announce the launch of our Wildland Fire Academy, scheduled to begin in Fall 2025. This academy will provide essential training for future wildland firefighters and support our region’s increasing need for skilled personnel to meet today’s wildfire challenges.
As we prepare for this important initiative, we are seeking guidance and feedback from experienced professionals and partner agencies. Specifically, we are in need of:
  • wildland fire vehicle (Type 3 or Type 6) and a passenger van for student transport and field operations.
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) that meets NFPA 1977 standards for wildland firefighting.
  • Tools and equipment, including hand tools, hoses, and related gear for training and live exercises.
Your experience and insights would be invaluable to us as we build a strong foundation for this program. If you have recommendations, surplus equipment, or know of funding or partnership opportunities, we would greatly appreciate your input.
Thank you in advance for any information or support you can provide as we work to train the next generation of wildland firefighters and strengthen community safety.
Warm regards,

Good morning all,
I hope this email finds all of you well and enjoying a bit of a summer break.
As some of you may know, I have been in contact with an organization called Career Catalyst, created by the Foundation of Ca Community Colleges. This organization acts as an employer of record for paid internships and apprenticeships, partnering with governmental agencies, municipalities, workforce boards and colleges, to name a few. Career Catalyst could assist us in turning volunteer positions into paid work experience.
I am working on the possibility of having them make a presentation on how they could assist with public safety students. They have asked if I can provide some job descriptions for the positions these interns, apprentices and pre-apprentices would hold within the public safety organizations. You are some of my best resources, and thought you might be able to assist in gathering an assortment of job descriptions for their review.
Thank you in advance for any you could provide.
Linda
